Waltham Leas Primary Academy
Waltham Leas Primary Academy

Our new client Waltham Leas Academy who were brought forward through our existing relationship with ID Architecture had a business case to re-develop the existing courtyard space into new sensory spaces for children with specific needs as well as a calming room at their existing facility. This was issued out for closed tender and Belvin were awarded the contract to complete the works.
Works consisted of soft and hard demolition of the existing facility and a new extension to create the space designed and connect between the new facility and the school. This was due to not having this facility in the existing school.
Tasks completed were demolition, Groundworks, drainage, Asbestos above ground, Steelwork, Brick and blockwork, Joinery, Roofing, Cladding, render, External Doors, Windows, M&E, Air-Conditioning, IT services, Boarding and Skimming, Suspended ceilings, Decorations, Flooring, storage fit out, and cleaning.

This development was completed in a live school with limited access and egress to site to undertake the works and therefore just in time deliveries were maintained to reduce congestion to the public and neighbours. Also all Belvin and subcontractor staff with enhanced DBS checked and certificated due to working within a school facility.
We also had to keep the whole school facility fully operational through the scheme therefore a close working relationship between Belvin and the School was developed to maintain the operations and cause minimal disruption as well as when needed to reduce noise when assembly’s or key events were taking place.
We ran a Christmas card competition where the children from year 6 were asked to design a Belvin inspired Christmas card for Belvin to include in their hampers for clients at Christmas time. There was one winner and they received a Smyths toy voucher as well as all received a chocolate selection box.
The building has now been completed and has become a more efficient facility for the school and catered for the children with different needs.
